In short: Białka is a good place for a family trip because most attractions are close: thermal baths with children’s pools 1.5 km from Willa pod Smrekiem, gentle slopes and a ski school in winter, and in summer a playground and monster rollers on Kotelnica, a river beach and cruises in the Pieniny.
A trip with children is judged by one question asked on the way home: “When are we coming back?” To hear it you need three things: short journeys, attractions suited to their age, and a place where everyone can rest in the evening. Białka ticks all three.
In winter
1. First steps on skis
On Kotelnica there is the STOK ski school, which teaches children, adults and advanced skiers. The gentle beginner runs are well prepared, and the nearest lift is 800 metres from the villa, so little legs are not tired before they even reach the slope.
2. Terma Bania
Thermal pools with slides and a children’s zone, 1.5 km from the guesthouse. Warm water after a day in the snow is a reward the whole family looks forward to. More in our guide to Terma Bania.
3. A short cross-country loop
The free, lit cross-country trails include a 1.25 km loop. It is a good distance for older children’s first adventure on cross-country skis.
In summer
4. Elf Village and monster rollers
In summer Kotelnica has the Elf Village playground, and older children go wild on monster rollers, off-road scooters with fat tyres. You ride up the mountain on a lift with a view of the Tatras.
5. The beach by the Białka
In the Białka Gorge reserve the river forms pebble beaches beneath limestone cliffs. Children build dams from stones, and adults cool their feet in crystal-clear water. Details in the article about the Białka Gorge.

6. Rafting on the Dunajec
Timber rafts float through the Pieniny from April to October. Raftsmen in highland costume tell anecdotes, and rocks rise several hundred metres above the water. Check the rules for the youngest passengers with the organiser. More in the article about rafting on the Dunajec.
7. A castle with a legend
Children who like stories about treasure will love the castle in Niedzica and the legend of the Inca treasure.
All year round
8. The boomerang story
The world’s oldest known boomerang was found in a cave a few kilometres from Białka. It is a great story for a walk through the reserve. Read the story of the boomerang from Obłazowa.
9. Sheep in the meadows and highland culture
Sheep graze in the meadows around Białka, and highland culture is still alive in the surrounding villages. For city children, meeting a flock in the mountain pasture is often the biggest attraction of the day.
A place to stay where children are not bored either

At Willa pod Smrekiem a play room with table football and toys awaits you, and for families we have 4-person rooms and a family room for 5. The shared kitchen lets you cook what the children will really eat, and in the garden there is a gazebo with a grill and a place for a campfire. See the family rooms and amenities.
